India vs England 5th Test Match: Yashasvi Jaiswal can break the long-standing records held by Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli.
In terms of the most runs scored by an Indian batter in a bilateral consisting of three or more Test matches, Yashasvi Jaiswal is just one run away from surpassing Virat Kohli’s second-highest total. When the fifth Test between India and England begins on Thursday at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, the left-hander Jaiswal will surpass Kohli’s record of 655 runs, which he scored during the home series against England in 2016–17.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has amassed 655 runs at an average of 93.57 in four Test matches, including two double hundreds. In that series between 2016 and 2017, Kohli also scored two double hundreds against England. Jaiswal will surpass Kohli’s all-time best total if he can get 38 runs in two innings. The former captain of India scored 692 runs in Australia in 2014–15, but he will miss the entire England series because of the birth of his second child.
Given Yashasvi Jaiswal’s current form, it would be shocking if he didn’t defeat Kohli. In fact, there’s a good chance the left-handed opener would surpass Sunil Gavaskar’s record for the most runs an Indian has ever scored in a series. Jaiswal is now in an elite group with Gavaskar, Kohli, Rahul Dravid, and Dilip Sardesai as the only Indian batsmen to score more than 600 runs in a Test series, thanks to his outstanding performance against England. Gavaskar is the only other Indian to have scored more than 700 runs in a series; the fact that he accomplished this feat twice against the West Indies (1971 and 1978–79) speaks much about his greatness.
Gavaskar only lost one of a set of four Test matches in 1971 when he was bowled out for one in the opening inning of the third Test in Barbados. His other scores, which included 65, 67*, 116, 64*, 117*, 124, and 220, were indicative of the “khadoos” (work ethic and mindset) of Bombay batsmen, who were unlikely to give up a lead.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is very important for India in 5th Test vs England
In Indian cricket, Yashasvi Jaiswal is a player on the rise who possesses great potential and unflinching resolve. His inspirational journey from modest beginnings to the peaks of cricket shows that dedication and hard work can conquer any challenge. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting style is fearless and aggressive. He’s not afraid to take on the bowlers, and his ability to score quickly makes him a valuable asset at the top of the order.
Jaiswal has failed three times in this series: he scored 15 and 17 in the second innings in the first and second Tests, while his lowest score of 10 was in the first Test inning.
The pace at which Jaiswal has scored all those runs during this series is another impressive aspect of his outstanding performance. In a Test series, Victor Trumper is the only hitter to have scored more runs than Jaiswal while maintaining a higher strike rate (87.78). The second-best strike rate (78.63) of any hitter to surpass 650 runs in a Test series belongs to Jaiswal.
Jaiswal’s performance will be crucial in the final Test, as the “used pitch” in Dharamsala is likely to assist the seamers with the new ball. The cold and damp conditions fueled by the untimely rains are also likely to play their part. He has played James Anderson quite well throughout this series, and if he can manage to do the same again, Gavaskar’s more than five-decade-old record can be in danger, if it is not already.
