Is Volkswagen bringing back the fun? The Polo GTI might be making a comeback in 2024!

Car enthusiasts, get ready there is a circulating rumor that the legendary Polo GTI is making a comeback! Volkswagen has stopped producing the regular Polo in a number of places, including India, but there’s a decent chance the fire-breathing pocket rocket will return. However, it appears that the Polo GTI will only be available in certain markets and be imported in small quantities this time.

Polo GTI

Volkswagen abandoned the Polo, their most cheap hatchback, years ago, but aficionados still maintain a strong fan base for the sportier Polo models.

Volkswagen may resurrect the Polo brand in India, although in a whole new form. Volkswagen had long since stopped producing the Polo, which was their most economical hatchback. However, aficionados continue to be huge fans of the sportier Polo models.

Volkswagen may now consider bringing the GTI version of the new Polo to India through the CBU import method. The Polo will be sold as a CBU but won’t be produced here.

Polo GTI: A Potential Return for the Hot Hatchback

Remember that Volkswagen also introduced the previous Polo GTI in limited quantities two years ago in three-door form? The latest generation Polo GTI is a fast and hot hatchback. Launched in 2016, the previous Polo GTI was marketed in extremely restricted quantities locally. While the next generation Polo GTI has a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing over 200 horsepower, the new model may be the same. If Volkswagen chooses to introduce the GTI here, this will be the first time the Polo in its new generation form has been available.

The GT series was founded here by the previous Polo, and the GTI’s reintroduction will help the brand in the luxury auto market. Although the exact date and type are still unknown, Volkswagen has only introduced the ID4 electric SUV thus far. The Polo GTI will reintroduce the GTI label in 2025.

Volkswagen has previously introduced a number of models under the CBU route, including the GTI, which stands for the sportier side of the automaker. There are enough fans in India who are eager for the reintroduction of this badge. Other models include the T-Roc and the Tiguan All-Space.
